Customer Rating: Summary: Who Will Like This. Comment: Yes, another Avatar the Last Airbender review, but this one I believe will show who will and will not like this, and why. I was very slow to like this show myself. When I would catch it on television I dismissed it as another kid's show, but as it was on cable, a lot, I began to watch it more and more. Beneath what looks like a child's show is a pretty deep story with great character development. I am a big action/fantasy fan from hard sci-fi to Harry Potter, so naturally a story like this would appeal to me. Still, this may not appeal to all fantasy fans. After showing this to several friends and family members I realized if you don't like action, and you don't have much of an inner child, The Last Airbender will not appeal to you. If you do have the above qualities, though, you are in for a treat.
This series has wonderfully animated action, realistic dialogue and character development, and is a great way to convey more eastern philosophies and general moral lessons to kids. None of this, though, is done in a heavy handed or preachy manner. The show is fun, and to contain and teach all that it does is quite an accomplishment. I put this series as one of my top five animated shows of all time. Whether it's for a young person or a young person at heart it's well worth it. Customer Rating: Summary: This is the best ever, stick with it Comment: I happened upon this series accidentally. It was the best accident of my life. No matter what age you are, this is the series to watch. When you have completed watching the series, it will be like something has been ripped from your life. Customer Rating: Summary: Amazing series Comment: This DVD set has it all, no complaints and the dvd casing is very nice with artwork. in addition there is nice artwork on each of the dvd discs. The only thing that i found different is that the paper insert does not have a episode list which would have been great. but obviously a minuscule thing and its still an awesome set. Customer Rating: Summary: The Book Of Water Comment: I recieved this product promptly, the shipping was efficient, the product in mint condition and I loved this Book on the Water Nation. Avatar the Last Airbender is my favorite series, and I will continue to purchase from Amazon. Customer Rating: Summary: This-show-is-AWESOME! Comment: I will skip going over the plot since many others have already done that, but suffice it to say this is a really cool show that kids and adults can enjoy. I remember when the show first came out, I was in high school. It wasn't until I was in college that I finally got into it and I'm kicking myself for not getting into it sooner! This show has everything a fantasy and martial arts fan could want!
Avatar: The Last Airbender is a fantastical journey across a magical world. It's exciting, comedic and suspenseful with good morals and lessons and philosophy. The bending of the elements employed by the characters (which is awesome all by itself) is made even cooler by being based off of real kung-fu styles. The animation is beautifully done and the voice acting is very good. Some of the humor is geared more toward kids, but you have to remember this show is primarily aimed for kids in the first place, so just go with it. Another younger aspect that may make older views scratch their heads are the bizarre animals shown (such as a platypus-bear or a turtle-seal), but the plus side is that shows creativity on the part of the writers. There are times when the show gets deep as it explores the emotions and relationships of the characters.
Each episode is usually roughly 24 minutes long. I like to watch three or four at a time because they're so darn short and catchy it's like watching a mini-move. It's easy to blow through a disc if you're not careful.
There are also a few bonus features; interviews with the cast and writers, behind-the-scenes looks and episodes with audio commentary, and the "prototype" first episode that was made but never aired just for the writers and animators to get a feel for how they were going to make the show. The bonus features are cool but personally I wouldn't care as much if they weren't included. I buy the seasons for the show itself.
Long story short kids will love this show. If you're older than 17 DO NOT LET THAT STOP YOU FROM WATCHING THIS! You can enjoy it by yourself or with your kids if you have any. This is an animated gem, and the first season is just a warm up compared to the second season. I have yet to see the third season, but I hear it's good.
